Max Power looked to have won all three points when he broke the deadlock in the 87th minute, but Matt Godden equalised 60 seconds into stoppage time.
And Maddison, who has been the subject of Sunderland fans’ interest before, has riled the Wearside faithful with his post-match tweet.
The reason he was booed was due to his constant clashing with Bryan Oviedo, who was booked early on while Maddison eventually picked up a card of his own for a blatant dive.
